Martha originally studied Ceramics at Camberwell College of Arts before going on to train as an Art Therapist at Goldsmiths, University of London. With many years of experience teaching pottery to children, she combines strong technical knowledge with a nurturing, child-centred approach that supports confidence, creativity and self-expression.
She runs small, friendly pottery workshops and weekly classes for children from her studio at Railway Studios in Charlbury.
What Children Will Learn
In these engaging, hands-on sessions, children will:
Explore clay through play and guided projects
Learn hand-building techniques such as pinch pots, coil work and slab building
Experiment with texture, pattern and colour
Discover glazing and decorative slip techniques
Build patience, focus and creative confidence
Her teaching style balances clear guidance with imaginative freedom, ensuring every child feels supported while developing their own creative voice.
Alongside teaching, she maintains her own ceramics practice, creating earthenware tableware decorated with colourful slips and experimenting with stoneware clays and glazes. Inspired by a love of nature, her work often informs the themes explored in her children’s classes.
These workshops provide a welcoming and inspiring environment where children -whether complete beginners or enthusiastic young makers- can develop skills, make friends and experience the joy of working with clay.
Workshops generally focus on creating and completing a single project in a day.
